Hello Duncan. Assuming that I didn’t disgrace myself too badly last time, I’d like to join this trip. Thanks

Yesterday was a fanatastic day for the Newbie/Fewbies. We had a decent-sized convoy of 12 vehicles. We had a slow start out of the gate after a full and detailed briefing by our Marshals to ensure everyone knew what to do and what to expect. This was made up on the back end however, as our ride went well into darkness (not by plan rather by chain of events). As the sun set over the dunes, one or two recoveries quickly turned into several recoveries as the string of Newbies/Fewbies quickly learned what a challenge it is driving in complete darkness compared to having the bright sun to light the way. The whole afternoon was filled with soft sand, small, technical dunes , large stepped dunes. We even drove through a desert forest at one point.

Not only did we have a great ride, we learned a lot. We have several recoveries, second/third attempts, night driving, and even a pop-out. I think it is safe to say everyone enjoyed themselves, had a great time, and learned a lot.

A massive thanks and shout out to our leaders: Joe, Asem , and Zachariya. They did an amazing job to keep us safe, teach us well, and ensure everyone enjoyed themselves. In all of the chaos and adventure, the three of them always kept the convoy safe and well-maintained.

Thanks guys and looking forward to seeing you all on the next ride!!

Another great turnout despite the petrol price increase! Can’t keep offroaders off the off-road…. :drive:
Two convoys were formed. It was great to read about the newbie/freebie convoy experience – thanks for that Matt. :ymapplause:

The intermediate was lead by Duncan and sweep was Walter. We started off riding a few ridges and cresting just to ensure everyone in the convoy was happy with the drive level. The sand was very soft especially with the temperature hovering around the 50c mark. Considering that a further deflation of the tires was necessary to enhance flotation.

As the convoy progressed we only had a couple of second attempts. More of the issue was suspension play in one of the jeeps and a tire in another vehicle that had been ripped to shreds literally. 😮 After a quick change the convoy continued. We came across some large dune decents- one into a pretty attractive “forest” The dunes got smaller and much more technical. On the way to Sony Ericsson one of the convoy members exited at a safe location point and the rest continued. After a bit of play on the exhilarating Sony Ericsson dune – which feels like a great accomplishment – we made our way to the exit in time for sunset. Thanks again to all for a great day out. See you next week. :thanks:
