What a drive!!! – full of challenges, incidents, teamwork, rain-drive and finally the sweet success ๐Ÿ™‚

First half of the drive was smooth with reasonable momentum and both newbee convoys met at the common point for a short break. Second half was exactly the opposite with heavy down pour and frequent hiccups. It was an awesome and rare experience to drive in heavy rain :-BD Considering the difficulty level of the route and driver skills , its a great achievement to reach the inflation point safely without any mishaps. Kudos to all DO Marshals and members :-BD :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Though certain careless and unnecessary attempts by few members in the dark, enhanced the recovery tasks and delay, situation was always under control. Lack of radio with many members, made the tasks thorny. We had to call for a drivers briefing in between to avoid unnecessary hiccups.

Once again we have proved that DO is a great team :ymblushing: :-BD It was a great inspiring scene to see DO Marshals flying in to support, took key guidance positions in the convoy and even took over the vehicle control from few struggling newbee members. Thereafter it was a smooth sailing to the inflation point in about 20 minutes. DO had once again accentuated that whatever the situation is, we never leave anybody in the desert :-BD Thanks to Chief and Marshals – Ali, Tushar, Satwinder & Saif ^:)^

Thanks to Ahmed Bhai and Thanseer for the lead and support :thanks:
Thank you very much Sayed bhai (aka Aeimi) for your wonderful sweep support. Indeed, it was a great job by you at sweep helping me to lead at ease :ymapplause:
Gerrryyyyyy, words are not enough to praise your untiring recovery support ^:)^ You did realize the cost of your winch in this single drive itself ๐Ÿ˜‰ Great job buddy :ymapplause:
Thanks to Duke and Andy for being readily available for all kind of supports. You guys did an awesome job :ymapplause:

See you all again in sands, very soon ๐Ÿ™‚ :drive:

my jeep is getting smaller and smaller… I guess that means it gets lighter as well, soon I’ll be flying over the fences without a problem!

    Drive Report

A good drive yesterday with many an adventure had by all! After dividing into our groups we set off into the sand.

Our group (Ahmed leading – Gerry and i sweeping) had a fairly straightforward drive initally with only a few minor stucks which were all resolved quickly.

Shortly after spotting the Ibex (Ahmed later pointed out that it was a Gazelle – my ability to classify desert wildlife needs to improve obviously) the rain came down! Thunder, lightning and heavy rain in the desert was a first for me and i think all drivers did well to cope with the conditions.

Both newbie convoys then set off for the Iftar bowl – follow the fence and then turn right at the appropriate point, what could go wrong? Next adventure was a stuck combined with a popout (in a difficult position)which tested all those involved and us lost time and daylight. From here the route was changed and we followed the fence back to Tawi – with a couple of other adventures thrown in just to keep us on guard!

Like G Kumar already mentioned there were a lot unnecessary stucks mainly due to failure of communications and other issues – all could have been avoided if we had watched/listened to the marshalls!

Still, no-one got hurt and we all got out in one piece which is the main thing!

    Main lessons??

    1. All cars need radios!
    2. Maintain vehicle spacing!
    3. Follow the designated route!
    4. Watch and listen to the marshals!

See you all next week! :thanks: to Kumar for taking a phone call from my obviously worried wife, cheers mate!

Nice report Andy and very well said on lesson? :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
I hope yesterday’s drive was a good learning experience to all members and might have realized, why we keep repeating this very basic convoy requirements in the forum as well as in the drive briefings in sands :-BD

Great Team work DO’s! I am sorry I couldn’t join the rescue team, but chief sent me home because my car was suffering and he had enough to worry about…no need for more worries! Rob, go home! :drive:

same thing happened with me, broke the rear shock so cud not drive back to desert and informed Chief about it & was let to go home. missed the Opportunity to drive in night for the rescue.
    sorry for that.
