Hi All,
We are two families planning for a trip to Nizwa on the 11-13th.
Can anyone guide us on the route to take. We are planning on Jabal Akhdar, Jabal Shams and would like to also visit Muscat if possible.
My immediate concern is for the FJ brakes as I have hear Jabal Akhdar has some very steep slopes for descent and I would like to use engine braking and not rely on my brakes. :drive:
My concern is for the transmission as I have a A/T. Can someone advise which if I should use H4 and 2nd gear? Your advise will be invaluable as I have family with me. I don’t have hill descent control as some wranglers are known to have. (This is Futtaim supplied car what do you expect :)) :(( )
I would like to also try and visit one of the Wadis as I have never done this…can you share some routes and if possible some waypoints with good locations.
:thanks: :-B

I would however recommend that you go with somebody who has done these drives at least once before to avoid any unnecessary surprises.quote mosalf:Hi All,……as I have hear Jabal Akhdar has some very steep slopes for descent and I would like to use engine braking and not rely on my brakes. :drive:

you are right, Jebel Akhdar road has some steep inclines and slopes, but driving in A/T should be fine. Just drive in 4H, 2nd or 3rd gear while coming down and you will enjoy the ride. you may need to take extra care if you find some unusual ๐ company on the road. Saiq plateau on the Jebel Akhdar has a big military establishment on top, so sometimes, heavy military gear is seen using this road. if that happens when you are going up or down, you need to exercise more caution for your own speed and the distance that you maintain w.r.t. the vehicle in front. Better idea would be to park your car at one of the specially created parking lots at some of the vantage points and let the military convoy pass without getting sandwiched between it.
enjoy your trip

THanks to Ahmad and Ajay, had a good drive both up and down….the points are simply great and a not miss. Oman rocks and there are so many places to camp, its a waste to stay in a hotel. I will be going once more if the opportunity presents again for sure. :drive:
