THANKS TO THE ALL THE SENIOR MEMBERS WHO HAS HIGHLIGHTED THIS IMPORTANT TOPIC IN THE PAST TIME TO TIME AND HERE AGAIN I FEEL THIS IS REQUIRED FOR INFORMATION OF MEMBERS WHO HAS BEEN RECENTLY UPGRADED AND FOR THE INFORMATION OF NEW COMERS
It has been observed that many at times the members are not equipped with the proper or full recovery gear while joining for drives. The recovery gears is most important in our hobby which is for your own safety and for the safety of other. Here below is the list of Equipments required

Viking Kinetic Recovery Tow Ropes are made from 100% Premium DuPont™ Nylon Double Braid
The Viking Tow Ropes stretch at breaking point which makes them more effective than straps. The high degree of stretch makes the Recovery Ropes extremely effective.
The usage of standard rope requires jerking stuck car, where you need to accelerate with full power on a distance of 2 – 3 meters. If the struck car is still not recovered then you need to repeat this several times with slight change in tracks in order to avoid digging of recovery vehicle. At the end of recovery, there is heavy load on the Engiene and gear box of the recovery vehicle.The process remains same with kinetic rope but the difference is you can feel the recovery done easily. How it happens is when you accelerate with this kinetic rope attached, it stretches to the maximum and the accumulated energy in the rope makes the recovery easier by bringing the car out.
At the end, the process is simple.
1. If there are BAD stuck, the viking rope is going to be helpful with no damage to the car.
2. If you want to tow a car in the desert for a long distance then snatch strap will be good and helpful.Small correction as a result of slight wording I believe the second type of rope that Humayoon is referring to, the type that doesn’t stretch, is called a towing rope/strap. Some people also use the belts used on construction cranes which also don’t stretch. So basically two types kinetic which stretch (snatch straps) or Non stretch (two strap or even solid steel chain I have seen once)
Snatch strap ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snatch_strap) is a general term for any rope that when pulled stretches and stores kinetic energy which is transferred to the stuck vehicle. Making the viking is in essence a snatch strap just more heavy duty and durable than the average snatch strap such as the ARB and others available which are also really good. Viking is generally viewed as the best choice for our purposes.
The difference in use can be imagined as the following. The tow rope will result in a solid impact like being hit with a sledge hammer repeatedly if required which can result in damages to chassis and or transmission or any part of the car. A snatch strap will gradually apply a firm more consistent pulling force allowing for a much more gentle easy recovery an can allow for recovery from difficult stucks.

..Your First Aid kit needs to be up to date and regularly maintained
Your fire extinguisher also needs to be in date and instantly accessible
Your seat belts need to be in good order and you need to be wearing them, as do all your passengers
Check that your insurance covers you for off road rescue UAE & Oman.
Guys Make sure your shackles are rated in excess of the proposed loading, Stainless Steel shackles are very pretty but by nature they are brittle and thus have a lower sheer stress, Galvanised shackles are more suitable for our purpose
Ensure you know the location of your tow hooks. If you have a rear central tow fitting, ensure it is an approved type I.E. closed and not a ball.
Ensure all off-road gear is stowed in your vehicle in an instantly accessible fashion and securely held in that position. Your kit needs to be in good order and not just in a massive pile in the back of your ride. Special attention needs to be paid to Heavy items such as your jack. I note here that the standard jack delivered with your vehicle isuseless get a trolley jack
If you are on an overnight trip the necessity for proper stowage is exacerbated due to the sheer volume of kit some people carry into the sand with them. Light is right B-)
You are engaged in an extreme sport akin to Rally :drive: . In extreme circumstances, roll-over for example, your rescue kit still needs to be able to be accessed and maybe not by you!!!!!

Although marshalls will have proper recovery gears, it is the responsibility of the members to carry your own recovery gear and learn to how to use it.
Hence in future, all members joining for the drives need to carry recovery gear as per your level and it will be checked by the marshalls prior to commencement of the drive.
April 20, 2014 at 6:40 am #29837Very good point to note. Safety is paramount at Dubai Offroaders and this is vitally important to all members that the required equipment is stored in your vehicle.
April 20, 2014 at 2:59 pm #29855Just a further point to note on this for newbie/fewbee is to please check your insurance. Not all insurances are equal and whilst some provide offroad cover, when you check the small print it states that it will cover you but only up to 3km or the like off tarmac.
The better insurers in the market like AXA, Oman and RSA are the safer options to go for but again please check that you purchase the offroad extra cover.
