Hi all,
I just wanted to share some experience and seek some info.Over Eid Holidays we were going to Mahda Area (In Oman) for canyoning, there was no visa requirement for this area as you could go through Hatta Pools to reach this place earlier. However this time around there were three check posts on the way who asked for the passport (though they didnt see that). But the last check post that was just before the hatta pools returned us back saying we needed Omani visa to enter. Mind you there was no Omani checkpost at this border from where u could get the visa.
Upon investigation I got to know that this is due to some sort of dispute that they started to restrict people entering into Oman and this may be a temporary arrangement. But I thought it worth mentioning so that the others may benefit from this info.Last but not least if anyone could tell the process of getting Omani visa in advance from the embassy in UAE?? We usually get visa at the entrance at the border check posts.

AdeelNovember 25, 2010 at 6:46 am #13121This has been going on for two years plus as we have had some issues earlier too, while going for camping in the Hatta Pools area.
There may be some issues, but I do not think that this may haveto do with any disputes.
There was apparently a lot of Human trafficking going on as a number of people are able to get into Oman from Iran, Baluchistan, Makran & Yemen due to the proximity and the very long & unmanageable Omani coastline.
All these people eventually have UAE, inevitably, as the ultimate destination mostly for employment…
I guess this is mostly to control those people since the border guards normally just accept any bonafide photo ID.
The fact that they asked for a Omani Visa is actually very surprising and perplexing as well…Thats the thing…even the Omani consulate was surprised when I told them the same thing.
I just called the Omani Consulate and this is what they told me.
They’ll issue single entry visa for AED 50.00. However if someone needs multiple visa then you need to have your name as owner in an Omani company. I told the guys that we are frequent visitors of Oman so he referred me to a guy named Ahmed Al Henia, who is responsible to decide on each case basis. He told me that if my resident visa for the UAE is partner visa then I stand a good chance to get multiple visa for one year at the cost of AED 500.00.
I think it may be convenient but more expensive than receiving it at the border for AED25 per visit.
Just FYI
I had gone to hatta pools in the first day of the holiday, that was monday. The same two check posts were there, the first one no checking of anything and the second one looked into my ID, but they let me through and all the other cars in front of me and behind me.After enjoying the water in hatta pools, headed back home , and I had shared my expereince to couple of my other freinds, that it was good weather and they should go.
They had decided to go on wednesday, the last day of the Holiday, and they had encountered the same problem, of the people in the check post returning them back, because they had no Omani Visa, but at the same time since they had nothing to do that day and was very desperate in going there, they headed towards buraimi, through which they were allowed to enter and they had reached Hatta pools. For sure the kilometeres were long, but they could get through. I beleive the border of buraimi is leneint to let people go through, that’s what I heard from many people as well. -
