Its general knowledge that tiptronic gear boxes have e-nannies that ‘cos them to change gears to avoid damage when over-revving.
This should happen only when red-lining (I had a hyundai coupe that I used to red-line in tiptronic regularly).
My Pajero’08 is changing from 1st to 2nd at 5000rpm – but red line is at 6500rpm.Does anyone know a garage/mechanic that can re-program the ECU to shift at red-line only?
No need to re programm ECU.
I am very unaware to Pajero world, but by my common sense logic i can advise u to try this next time u hit sand.
DONT ENGAGE TIPTRONIC on long climb, as no shifting of gears should be done while climbing it will def loose pwr.
Try to put on 1st gear (HI) manually and climb, let the rev limiter hit the red line it will automatically cut off and start in. Thats wht i call doof doof method. Its not good for car if u do it VERY often. Keep it only for climb. I also use it in all cars and if u do it sensibly then there is no problem as cars are design to be push to MAX RPM.
Second thing u can also try shift to 2nd (HI) manually and try climb and little before u think its loosing pwr shift to 1st manually not tiptronic. As tiptronic never allow u to over rev the engine.
Thirdly you can try same above two option in (LO) gear with 2nd gear and 3rd gear.
Read some Pajero forums, and educate urself. Every car engine and gear respond different from one another. I have never got a chance to try Pajero but im sure there are some way that you adjust ur driving first than re programming ur ECU. Your car is new and should be in warranty. More than likely by ECU prog u will loose ur warranty. Check with Mitsu.

The Pajero has 4 options on the offroad gearbox – 2H, 4H, 4HLc, 4LLc
The last two have the center diff locked (4 High Locked Center, 4 Low Locked Center). On the normal gearbox, I can only choose D, N, R, P – or Tiptronic instead of D.
Adjusting your advise slightly to fit my car, I think what you mean is to keep it locked in Low (4LLc) when climbing. That should keep it in 1st until redline – don’t know if it’ll upshift at redline, or re-engage 1st (doof doof).
I faced this problem on Big Red, it shifts to 2nd and stops climbing !
I think I need to experiment more – and then I’ll know how to get the Best of the Beast.Pajero has Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC) – on my model I have an off switch, under the dash, on the right, near the petrol lid lever.
ASTC cuts throttle as soon as traction loss is detected (which is every 10sec in the sand). If you switch it off, throttle doesn’t cut off and you can tell which tyre is slipping via the display in the dash.

I drive both a Wrangler and Pajero. My Pajero is LWB 3.0. Initially i was not able to take it to the top of Big Red for quite some time and felt that the car is under powered. But, after talking to the veterans, i noted to reduce the tyre pressure to 12 psi ( i put on Cooper ATRs). This made a big difference. I climbed Big Red in both Auto and Tip Tronic and it climbed beautifully, each in the first attempt.
I see that you drive a 3.8 which has adequate power, but i guess you have not pushed it hard enough. 3.8 is very powerful. If my 3.0 can climb Big Red, your 3.8 will fly.
Tyre pressure and the right type of tyres will take you to the top.
half way of climbing dune, power cut off by gear automatically shifted to 2nd. Used tiptronic in 4HLc, 4LLc modes. Some says when the RED Line is reached and then the gear will shift automatically. But mine before reaching to this point, start shifting gear.
If anyone had this problem please assist me how to do the tricky part. I need to stay on 1st gear all the way climbing to get more torque.

Good offers
But to face the problem y need to drive this on desert))))) ๐ its easy to say, but at the end I’m not enjoying while driving, I’m just trying to catch right RMP on my way to climb up or to stay on ridge :-ss
Small jump and your RMP jump high and your gear box switch to second :(( :(( :(( :(( trust meMay 16, 2016 at 9:05 am #35883At the end of the day
go to the Low is not fix the problem. i have the same problems on Low – My first is so fast, so i need to use second like a first, on high RMP second switch to third :ymparty: :ymdevil:
Personally i don’t like traction on 50/50 difflock, your front wheels taking too much and car doesn have as good control with steering as on 30/70I have the same problem on my wife’s pajero! I hope someone posts a solution to this. But I am afraid that I simply cannot keep the car at max RPM (otherwise the gear switches) but always stay below the max. Very unoptimal!
Actually happens also sometimes with my wrangler but only when I keep too long on high RPM!
Next car (at least for me) manual!

1) Agree
2) Need to try first how does work on desert! i might kill clutch fast :))
3) I have solution, to invite that russian guru to us and let him do a magic with our gear boxes and low engine power! Believe me or not but many clubs (not only Pajero club) invite him to their cities and he usually spend half day near airport to reprogram many cars

Hi, is there any updates regarding the issue???? please update it.
5000 definately sounds a bit early.. Pretty sure but mine changes at around 6000 rpm. After 2 to 3 seconds. I normally get momentum up go up 2nd then if I’m slowing drop it into first again . I’ll double check mine again a report back. It’s got me thinking now..

There is a solution! Change the car =)) this what I did ๐ or u need to find a good chip tuner, who can reprogram it for u. I couldn’t find anyone who is pro in Paj gearboxes. I know one guy in russia. I heard so many positive answers about reprogramming and its seems like everyone is happy, I contact him to talk about, what to do and ask him may be to travel to Dubai for a day to reprogram My and 10 others cars, that we could buy a tickets for him (this is what other clubs in post USSR do) But he’d seen it to complicated.
