Hey so been looking into this myself. When tackling the really big steep stuff the car will not let me downshift – at least until the rev’s die right off and then it’s too late I have to abandon the climb. Quite irritating actually, the car is completely capable if it would let me change gears when I need too.

So ive found a group in Dubai that does chip modifications. Mixed reviews they are either loved or hated. Offering to tune the Pajero computer for 2000 dirhams, promising in the range of 32-40 HP increase, ~ 40 NM Torque and to increase the up and downshifting settings both for tiptronic and drive.

So my DO buddies what’s your thoughts on this? We have a lot of Pajeros in the club has anyone done this before or do we need a guinea pig to go first?

Sounds a good find mate. I’ll let you adopt furry coat and big front teeth 😀 ..

My mate at work offered the same increases in bhp and torque from a tuning place but it was cheaper but with no tiptronic computer settings .

Let us know how you get on :drive:

Just found my message from my friend “32 HP and 40 torque aed 1900 is the lowest I got you” he’s quite connected in the car world

So I’d say yours is a good deal.

Fidling with the triptonic is what is really needed.
And not only assuring faster gear change but giving the control of the shifting in sport mode.

In association with the engine ecu tuning, the tuning of transmission tcu could allow for higher revs before upshifting in auto mode.
If well done, that would make a 3.8 Pajero really performant.

Talk to the persons you’ve met to make sure that their work will cancel the auto-upshifting in sport mode.

For 2000 dhs, it’s an extremely good deal!

    Keep us updated!

Did you notice any difference in last drive Jason?

Honestly no difference, even the wife was asking me what the fuss is about (she uses the car to drop the kids off at school). Now to balance the feedback, I know two other gents who got this done (non-Pajero’s) and they say night and day…..

To correct my last post (lets put it down to communication breakdown), upshifting and downshifting settings are only removing the lag period between applying torque after gear shifting. To address the Pajero “enanny” problem with the gear box they need access to the transmission system – a separate system that no one seems to be able to do. Whoever can figure this out could earn some easy money. I just want to be able to change gears when I want to.

I drive with my mechanic outside DO, he isn’t too keen on the whole chipping thing.

The current car is completely fine for the easy and mid range drives. Personally I am going to start sniffing around for a weekend desert vehicle.

It is definitely a great versatile overland vehicle Jason capable of most things. Very Comfortable, well equipped with bags of room inside and performs well even in tough situations. If i am doing 80-150 kilometers across a desert then i know what i would like to be in.

    Was it built as a weekend dune destroyer in Mitsubishi’s eyes maybe not but it puts up a good fight. Like you say if you want to be a dune busting rebel then Pajero may not be the Wolf in sheep’s clothing and no amount of work could make it that unless you find an Evo Pajero ….what fun that would be and there are a few out there restored i have seen them in the UK around 50 K AED plus shipping.. 8-}

Car number 2 mate : SWB perhaps like Vish? ..100 Kg lighter, 3.8 V6 and a small lift could be the answer. You can pick them up for around the under 25K AED if you search but not a great family outing car for camping trips etc.. It is a tough trade off and it has got me thinking too. I am resisting the FJ darkside and it is a strong pull 😕
