Pop OUTs, a helping hand …maybe!

Hi DO’s,
Whilst chugging around the area’s Garages and Suppliers I caught talk of a POPout helper. I duly followed the trail from Sharjah to Al Khorr and stumbled on a happening sales workshop for company staff at DAW and meet up with the UAE import licenceee of the following bit of kit.
Tyron http://www.tyron.co.uk
Developed in the UK for the Military, Police and Rescue services it allows vehicles to continue to perform in tyre blow-out situations. AS I was present the guys showed me a couple of promo videos and demonstrated the equipment.
Basically it is a set of steel bands with ABS nodules inserted into the bands at frequent intervals. These bands are fixed around the wheel rim grove and effectively limit the travel that a deflated tyre can move, thus retaining the rubber on the wheel.
In the video’s I was shown the Tyron bands were very effective at allowing vehicles maintain driving speed without any loss of control…quite impressive.
In my chat with the UAE import license holder, he implied that he was interested in penetrating the off-road market as he’d heard of the ‘popout’ phenomena. Having had a demo of the kit it is possible that the Tyron bands might help tyre retention in low tyre pressure situations, however no ‘testing’ has been done and as yet none have been fitted. Best Line garage was asked but Shibu apparently declined. The agent wasn’t able to give me an idea of projected price in the UAE or availability.
There is a small demo model available for viewing at DAW, there are several PDF’s explaining the system on http://www.tyron.co.uk
In conclusion I’m posting this topic in the interests of information for my DO buddies. Of course popout’s can happen to even the best. My gut reaction is that whilst the Tyron’s may prove useful in a popout situation it is no substitute for correct vehicle control and might even encourage overconfidence.
Be your own judge ‘caveat emptor’
:thanks: Brian
Looks really interesting ๐
Here is another solution : http://www.4by4connection.com/instinbesy.html
I know one guy that installed this inner tube after he got a pop out and rolled over with his FJ.

Ugh….. maybe the guy was fighting gravity and that was the cause of the RO, but it could also be overconfidence..believing that he was now immune and thus pushing the vehicle against the laws of nature. I sort of feel that about all the mods -winches lifts etc. although I could do with just a tiny bit more clearance and stiffer front shocks, hate the yoyo effect softness of the standard shocks, plus my plastic bumper is suffering ๐
