hey guyz,
a very gud morning !!! I finally took delivery of my FJ :drive: and now comes the boring (-| part of breaking-in the engine till it has 1k on the ODO.
In the mean time i was planning on the below mods and as always expert advice will be highly appreciated
1) Rear tow hitch – this will be a genuine toyota fj part which will fit on the rear bumper and it comes with a closeout panel which would replace the stock panel on the bumper. Bestline has quoted me AED 750 with installation.
2) Skid plates- engine and radiator skid plate. Bestline has quoted me AED 1,400 but i will have to check whether its alu or steel and if its 8mm or not. Apart from steel being heavier, will it be better than the alu plates? Secondly for dune bashing will the front skids suffice or do i need to instal skids for the transfer case as well.
3)Snorkel – i love my fj and i have no plans of using it as a submarine. Will snorkel be a wise mod for dune bashing? 😕
4)Airbags- i believe i will have to install a switch to deactivate the airbags? :-\ :-\
Please let me know if anything else has to be done to make an fj foolproof in the desert :thanks: :thanks:
January 29, 2016 at 6:25 am #34843Just drive it for a while before you do anything. Most of the FJ drivers first mod is the skid plate as the OEM one is a bit flimsy. Come to a drive and chat with the other drivers. The FJ is more than able without the mods, so don’t waste your money until you know your car better.
I fully agree with Paul. Just a skid plate would be sufficient for the moment and even for the future.I drive a stock FJ with an 8 mm aluminum skid plate in front since, so far no issue. Other than this you would need to invest in a flag, flagpole and a walkie talkie for safety reasons. You can also get quotation from Shibu Best Line garage for all these stuff except walkie talkie.
