Thank you so much for organizing the first Purple Drive :drive: and giving us all a good time. Thanks too to all the purple drivers for your company and passion and to my Sandbug for being such a discreet shot gun ๐ . With just 36 hours between planes it was great to get out in the sand and focus on nothing else but the drive and our environment. I loved the encounter with the friendly camels and particularly my soul mate who reached out to my iphone thinking it looked tasty. At least she had the grace to accept a piece of bread a few minutes later. ๐ check out FB this evening.

Congratulations all of you freshly minted purples:-) Just remember you don’t need to prove anything to anybody. Everyone gets stuck, even very experienced drivers in seemingly mundane situations! Try to keep your cool after you have had a less than perfect climb or crest. If you let yourself get worked up, and upset it almost guarantees that you will be stuck again, or worse.
It was great to see so many made the climb to the top of the bowl today! It was trickier than normal due to how chewed up the sand was.
Now on a DEADLY SERIOUS note… MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR RECOVERY GEAR IS RATED!!! While watching some of the recoveries it doesn’t look very abrupt or violent. With 2 vehicles weighing several tons a piece, a small innocent pull is deadly violet. If a failed shackle hits someone, it will at the very least remove a limb, and in the right spot, cost the ultimate price. Ensure all of your gear is fit for purpose, and if you have ANY doubt please ask one of the marshals at the next drive.
To finish, I’d like to thank everyone for a pleasant drive today.

This was a greatly anticipated drive and all the DOers arrived on time … the eagerness of the privates was apparent with everyone ready to’ taste the sand’.
The marshals divided the group into two convoys with GKumar as lead and Amjed as sweep in the first convoy.
I found myself placed in fourth position in convoy 2 with Ganesh at point and Amin assigned as rear guard to ensure that none of us strayed.Most of us had not driven in this area before however we soon experienced the joy of driving on short , sharp dunes with extremely tricky bowls that required a tremendous deal of concentration to successfully navigate.
The entire convoy performed exceedingly well , there was the occasional stuck or retry , however we were able to maintain a swift pace.
The only substantial delay resulting from a pop out by yours truly… ๐The two convoys converged at Iftar bowl and briefly paused to watch the experts in action.
From there we followed the tracks to the Badayer shops, where we all drooled over our achievements of the morning.:thanks: to the Marshals Ganesh/GKumar for yet another well organised and executed drive where safety was paramount.

Thanks to Marshals GK ,Amjed and seniors who had jumped in and were ensuring that we had a different taste of the sand while they stood guard. Hats off !
It was really a different game from what I(we?) have been used to these past few months ! I used to ponder at the Intermediate/Advanced/Exploration drives and after todays superb drive with Ganesh on the lead and Amin guarding the turf for us, I am envious of the fields that you people must be playing in :ymapplause:
It was worth taking half a day off from office(official off :ymdevil: ). Time well spent.
Long way to go ! Since we have “started” will ensure we reach the play ground in time ๐
Few mistakes made and tons of lessons learnt from them. Will correct.

@ Hongbin : Am little confused as to why would I be upset. You haven’t done anything to upset me bro. DO is my another family and all of you are in it.
If you are referring to my question of the tyre pressure levels at the foothills of Iftar bowl, it was just a normal question .When I had seen your front right tyre,while you parked next to my car while I was alighting ..You answered it 15!! PERFECT !! Frankly, it looked inflated. May be I was li’l dizzy trying to not to loose the leaping lead :p

Once again, no need to be sorry! I was thinking I was pretty hot stuff, but I had some work done to my Jeep, and on the Intermediate drive yesterday I was a little shakey on some climbs and crests. It is all a learning experience. Just take what you learn from failures, and apply it, and you will get another star!

:thanks: to Ganesh for your vote of confidence in handing over the sweep responsibility to myself. It was a great experience and definitely a whole new perspective keeping track of all in the convoy.
The day started early with all the drivers meeting up at the departure point. Flags were hoisted, tires deflated, stories from yesteryear told and the anticipation of what was awaiting the newly promoted “purple” drivers at a high. There were 18 cars split into 2 convoys, lead by Kumar and Amjed for one of the convoys and Ganesh and myself for the second. Our convoy was made up of:
Ganesh
Jason
Sundar
Iqsaan
Honbing
David
Ashraf
Nikki
MeDrive started out pretty smoothly and continued that way for most of the morning. We were fortunate to not have too may incidents on the way. Sundar at one point had a bit of a tricky sticky situation but nothing too complicated, I think many of us got the workout of the week by trying to shovel him out #:-S and as Murphy’s Law would have it, Iqsaan had a pop out at the same time, however by the time Sundar was pulled out, Iqsaan had already managed to get the tire back on and inflated :YMAPPLAUSE:
Hongbin, apart from the occasional retries, I have to say, has come a long way, the improvement and confidence in your drives are a fact. With additional drives, you will be able to realise what you and your car are capable of.
Jason, David, Ashraf and the desert rose Nikki, you were a pleasure to drive with and made my maiden Sweep duty that more enjoyable :-BD
I was also thinking of renaming Iqsaan to Superman ๐ that jump you made today was as impressive as it was scary, especially for the fact that Ganesh was underneath your car as it was in the air and managed to jump to the side in the nick of time. Ganesh my friend, you had an Angel on your shoulder O:-)
This brings me to a serious point I thought I would share. Communication during the drives are of utmost importance. It is also important to realise that the radios are there to be primarily used by the Marshals to communicate important information as well as the sweep and second lead to communicate with the Marshal. Of course the other drivers should use the radio in case of emergency or to ask the convoy to slow down or even stop if they see one of their teammates struggling. It is tempting and very natural for many of us, to want to help and give directions to our fellow drivers when they are stuck but it becomes extremely confusing when 3 people are giving directions. In those instances, only the Marshal or sweep should step in and communicate with the person in difficulty and advise the best course of action.
Please keep this in mind when driving next time and realise that this is the kind of thing the Marshals look for when considering promotions. It is not all about the number of drives, it is about the quality of the drives and more importantly about the maturity of the drivers.
Having said that, it was another great day, :thanks: to Ganesh and Kumar for organising this trip and bringing everyone back safely. Please have a look at the DO Facebook page where I have uploaded some pictures of today’s drive and see you soon out in the dunes \:D/
