my FJ only has 350km on the ODO. will it be safe if i join the trip before the required 1000km engine break-in?

Better dont. Sand requires high rpm, which is not advisable during break.in.
Btw, my new car i felt it really broken.in after 15k km…

    Hi Faheem,

Sounds like a nice drive, but cannot make it that evening. Hope you will get warmer weather than last week. 😉

I will join the drive on Friday though. See you again soon.

There are several schools of thought on this.

Personally I think driving in sand is a great way to break in your engine. I took my new car into sand with less than 100kms on the clock.

IMO the best way to wear in an engine is to load it as much as possible. I am not talking smashing limiter, but constant variation in the rpm and load (i.e. gears and incline) is great for wear in. So as long as it’s a relaxing drive I would go for gold. :drive:

But I am a big believer in the fact most people run low revs at a constant rpm to wear in an engine because of old metals and manufacturing methods from the 60’s and its one of the worst things to do in modern day engines
