Will create a Whats app group Wednesday evening with location (please make sure your profile phone number is correct on DO website).Etiquette:
1) Don’t sign up and not turn up – On limited space drives your stopping someone else from coming. You won’t be added If you have repeatedly flaked in the past.
2) Drive will start on time. Don’t moan if the convoys left without you or message me that your running late. Your choice (a) turn up on time for the drive, or (b) don’t sign up and have a sleep in like normal people.Checklist:
a) Carry air compressor with you and ensure itβs in working condition.
b) Ensure your 4×4 vehicle is in perfect condition and with enough fuel.
c) Compatible Radio is a must. You won’t be allowed to drive without one.
d) Carry enough refreshments for yourself & co-passengers.
e) Have an off road flag properly attached to your car.We had a different drive than what I had planned for this morning. We started near the line of dunes that runs along to Sweihan bowl. But when we got up into the dunes there was a new fence with no gaps in it blocking our progress. We decided to persevere and try a different route but that again was blocked with a gate and sign saying in Arabic “if you enter this area know that it is illegal and the driver will be held responsible by the courts” which was translated by Hafid.
So no more Sweihan Bowl.
So instead we crossed over the road and headed in the opposite direction towards Naheel. This drive started with some small sharp crests and that descended into small tight and technical dunes. After a bit of redirection from Alex and Dennis the area opened up into massive dunes that stretched on for kms before ending with Sand Mountain. We had a play at Sand Mountain and then continued in the direction of Naheel with some nice smooth flowing dunes before making our exit over a fence and along a long, long track.
I must thank Philip, Alex, Dennis and Jason who helped make this non start of a drive into a good drive in an area that I hadn’t planned to be leading in or knew well. Thanks also to Jason who had 2nd lead and Philip and Alex who swept at the back. Only two recoveries and a few 2nd attempts.
