Thanks Ali, I am driving this one with my Family…
the newbee ++ was an absolutely fantastic drive! Great lead by Tushar especially picking out a route for everyone to be able to keep up and the sweeps did a super job of keeping convoy in check and helping people through difficult situations.
When we were about halfway through the drive Tushar told us we would be stepping up the level and instructed everyone not to try anything they were not comfortable with and radio in if they felt they couldn’t keep up. But through perfect guidance by Abdulla & Jayesh at sweep, everyone did keep up and made it through the higher dunes successfully which is a great confidence boost for us as newbees!
It was really challenging and showed us that we have a lot more to learn about driving from the seniors at DO!
thank you Jayesh and Musbah for helping me recover!
Satwinder and Abdulla at sweep – nothing to worry about when you guys are around..See you guys next week!
I missed the Trip as started with a Good Challenge But very unfortunate to go ahead as my daughter was very scary and started crying so just left the Convoy in between.
Thanks Kumar,Gerrard and Andy for understanding my problem and sorry DO GKumar’s convoy for the In-convince caused.
A great group of 30+ cars and all gathered at Tawi….The Chief then divided the entire group in 3 convoys…..New bee led by Kumar…..Newbee++ led by Tushar with Gerry, Abdullah and Sattu…..Intermediate led by Sam, myself the second lead, Saif in the middle of the convoy & Thanseer, Yousef and Sultan as the sweep…..
Taj (a new member) joined the intermediate group as he was a bit late…and the drive started…
It was a smooth drive towards the fence and when Sam routed towards the dunes….Taj being new to our group was a bit slow in his pace, but was driving extremely well….At one point where we were waiting for all to join, Krishnan got stuck on a crest and was pulled by Yousef…At that point, the Marshals decided to shift Taj to join Tushar’s convoy and so Thanseer led Taj to Tushar….
Then Sam changed the drive plan and the drive’s pace was increased and everyone started moving at the similar pace….Every driver was challenged to test his driving skills through the tall high dunes of Pyramids…Krishnan had one more stuck and was recovered soon and then we reached the Iftar bowl….
In the mean time at the point where Krishnan was stuck, I lost my radio, so myself and Sam went back to the place but couldnt find it and so well all left for Iftar bowl…The sand at the bowl was wet and so everyone was trying their best to reach on top…I think Khalid was successful with his Jeep…
After spending some time at the bowl, Sam made his way towards the next point – The barbeque point as decided earlier….The track was looking simple but with lots of twists and turns on small dunes….
Once we reached the Barbeque point by 5 pm, Tushar’s convoy and the Chief were already present there…and setting up the place…Abdullah, Yousef, Sultan and Amjed left back home….
Kumar then reached there with his convoy and the plan was to play some stand-up comedy play on a screen – not with the projector…but with Chief’s mobile phone… :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: …..Kashmir Paaji joined us after some time….Andy and family had started setting up their barbeque…and the bonfire was on….
By 7 pm Chief called all the marshals and the drivers near the bonfire and all of sudden there was an announcement…….
“Ganesh is promoted as Major ***”…….. :yesss: :yesss: :yesss: Wowwwwwwwwwwww what a surprise and lovely feeling…….That was indeed a very nice surprise for me and i gave a short speech thanking all the Marshals and the club members for their support and guidance….
Kumar and myself then left towards the fence to reach Tawi shops…..
It was indeed a very nice drive….Thanks a ton Sam for the awesome lead and special :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: to all the drivers in the intermediate level – Khalid, Firoz, Zarir, Krishnan, Rahul – all of you drove extremely well…Gr8 job guys… :-BD
Thank you Saif, Yousef and Sultan for the sweep work….See you all for the next drive….
Tomorrow morning there is one more drive…Getting ready for that now ๐
Cheers :drive:
Beautiful fast paced drive with minimal stops. The dunes and pyramids were just enchanting to see and drive through, although Iftar bowl was messed up as usual. Thanks Sam for a fantastic lead. Really enjoyed the drive.
The BBQ was also super. A lot of effort by all the marshals in getting the logistics right in terms of the screen and sound system etc. Ali – you should get Samsung to make you the brand ambassador for the Samsung Beam. A nice evening to chit chat with the friends whom we normally drive with. Would have been better if even the newer members had joined in the camaraderie. All in all a great evening out with friends, food and drinks. See you guys next year.
Where’s the drive report and feedback from the newbee convoy? Jason, David, Madhav, Andy, Gerry?????????
The newbee convoy started from Tawi Nazwa towards Badayer with 9 cars. I was supported by Gerry as second lead and Andy in sweep. Commendable contribution from Andy :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: as you very safely managed the whole show of sweep support of a newbee convoy single handedly :-BD :-BD :-BD.
As soon as we hit the dunes, received the radio message that Roshan needs to return as his daughter felt this business quite scary ๐ Convoy was halted for a while and I took Roshan to safe track to head back to Tawi. Rejoined the convoy and continued the drive. There were bit hesitations and stucks which are nothing but the learning part of a newbee convoy. Once we reached the midway received the message that Goodly and Doctor want to return as their respective families were not feeling comfortable to continue the drive in dunes. Original plan to head to pyramids was aborted and the whole convoy was redirected to tracks at fence for Goodly and Doctor to drop the drive.
We were then left with 6 cars and Gerry was given a chance to refresh his lead skills and I got changed to 2nd lead. Gerry did a nice job at lead :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: and i could observe the performance of the whole convoy being at 2nd lead. Guys, you all were driving very nice and confidently, which tempted to me to give you more challenge, when Gerry returned the lead back to me ๐ Hope you were not scared and enjoyed the drive :-ss
Chief was anxiously waiting for us at the BBQ spot and was quite surprised to see less number of cars in the newbee convoy :)) :)) :)) For sure, he might have thought we left few cars in the middle of desert ๐ =)) Goodly returned from Tawi Nazwa to the BBQ spot and the other two convoys also arrived very shortly. BBQ event was really nice and some of the members were fully geared up for the event :-BD ๐
Announcement of Dada’s promotion was the highlight of the evening and Congratulations to you Dada for this much awaited recognition :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: ๐ ๐ ๐
Thanks to Chief and marshals for the BBQ and Joke Show arrangements. Indeed it was awesome :-BD
Due to certain family commitments, I had to leave early ๐ I was very deeply moved to see Andy’s cute little daughter coming running to say Thanks and Bye to me, with a sweet hug :ymblushing: :ymhug:
See you all again in sands very soon.
Wish you all Merry Christmas and A Very Happy New Year 2013 :ymparty: :ymparty: :ymparty:
quote GKumar:Announcement of Dada’s promotion was the highlight of the evening and Congratulations to you Dada for this much awaited recognition :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: ๐ ๐ ๐Thanks a ton Kumar….you have always inspired me and given me utmost support and guidance….thanks for being there Tiger…
Drive had started slowly, then our convoy stopped as one vehicle was on crest..Andy pulled it but we couldn’t make up the trail path, Convoy rules !!! :-ss. GK was back and taken us to the link…then stuck again…them missing convoy…Again Jerry came and re-routed to link with convoy…Speed increased on the plains with Jasons bumper hit on a slope…and some members were left and GK has given an adrenaline pump by changing the drive to more challenging… keeping the training by Abdulla was in mind and small gravity calculation the 2.7L vehicle climbed all the dunes and jumped the small desert hills like a Reindeer on the snow…Wherever gravity hold me i dipped to the bowls and came up….Unfortunately we didn’t stop for photos…and the memories will sleep with sand as always….Then headed to BBQ area for meeting the :ymcowboy: KING on the Throne and left the BBQ Eve due to last minute change to Plan B O:-) Gerry guided us to til the tarmac…then bye bye to Tawi…
Lessons Practised :drive:- Do not stop on a slope, If gravity hold you turn your nose to the bowl…
Keep the momentum while climbing the small hills or you will be in the air !!! (Everywhere it was a narrow escape from cresting) X(
If your mind doesn’t allow you to climb like Patrol or FJ, Go through the valleys….you will be safe
Make up your speed on the plains…
Always wait for your tail end car
Missed
- Ifthar Bowl
The Pyramids
:((
Some pictures are posted to our group - Do not stop on a slope, If gravity hold you turn your nose to the bowl…
