A Day and Drive to remember
We met at Tawi Nizwa at 7.15am as planned. We were 10 cars in total. The lead, Kumar, followed by Rob, Ashok, Andy, Chris, myself, Firoz, Amjed and the sweep work by Aemi & The SIR……As Rob said the first phase of the drive was “catch me if u can” .The drive started by minor stucks and self recoveries and then near the first pyramid, Amjed had a mojor issue with his Jeep ๐ฎ and he had to be driven back to the road by Kumar and Rob ๐ ….So the next plan was SIR would lead us to the Iftar Bowl and then Kumar and Rob would meet us there directly……We got to hear from Kumar that Rob did a fantastic job of getting back to Iftar bowl taking the lead position…..Good work Rob :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: ……
On the other hand SIR made the entire convoy feel and test their driving skills :drive: ….we had every bit of dips and turns fighting the soft patches and tricky dunes….Rob and Kumar met us a km way from the Iftar bowl and then it was decided that Rob will lead the entire convoy to Iftar Bowl and we reached there perfectly following the expereinced winch man……
Some good desert cleaning work was carried out by Ashok’s daughter :ymapplause: :ymapplause: and then later on others joined the campaign pulling out a huge cloth mat which someone had left behind after their barbeque party…..We left the Iftar bowl and then proceeded towards the main point of our drive – The Ghost Town…..
The Ghost town was just 2-3 kilometres away from us but the challenge each one of us experienced was just unimaginable……We were surrounded by all the ghosts in the midst of the desert teasing us to reach the point :ymdevil: :ymdevil: :ymdevil: …….Even the person (SIR) who owns a property in the Ghost Land was given a very tough time…..Firoz, Aemi (by his shotgun rider) had a stuck but the ghosts were really behind SIR…..The area was very very very soft and the moment we waited for someone to recover, the other person gets stuck or u can say just gets sunk into the sand….
Finally the Ghost Town was seen :yesss: :yesss: :yesss: and SIR invited us to see his property which is open for lease ๐ . Whoever is interested in leasing the property needs to remember some of the following points as mentioned in the contract made by SIR :
1. The people seen around the town are visible only in the night…
2. The house is very well decorated and furnished with the feel of the desert…
3. Each tenant has to own a buggie or a small wrangler….as he will have to cross the rooms through sand…
4. The entire house is surrounded by small dunes as children play area and barbeque spots….So please contact Mr. Thanseer for leasing the property …. :)) :)) :)) :)) :)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =))
We all had a nice time at the point munching some snacks and cold drinks…. :thanks: to Firoz and Kumar for the lovely sandwiches, and Aemi for the juices….
Ended the session with a nice group photo (uploaded in facebook)…..and then proceeded towards the exit point…Overall an absolute fantastic day of full 6 hours spent inside the desert…..Felt very sorry for Amjed to leave us at the beginning….Everyone drove well with all their expertise in offroading…..
Thanks a ton Kumar for the wonderful challenging drive and Hats off to SIR and all other drivers to make it possible…. :-BD
See you all again for such great skilled drives in future…..
Cheers
November 17, 2012 at 6:23 pm #20250Well, up to this drive I was 10 trips without a getting stuck! At least I was in good company though. A great trip in all, very testing with plenty of challenges to keep us all on our toes! See you all next time.
Your report is awesome Dada, as usual :-BD. Indeed, you summarized the whole event and nothing left over for me to narrate ๐ Still I need to make a brief report, being my drive, right? ๐ Since I had two drives during last weekend, my report priority was for newbie drive since it lacked a professional reporter in the convoy :p
It was really a very nice drive with all spices to quench the hunger of early morning sand bugs ๐ I will classify the drive into 3 phases. As Rob said earlier, the first phase was as warm up session “Catch Me If You Can” from Tawi to Pyramids via dunes, second phase was “Power Game” side slope exploration of Pyramids to Iftar Bowl and the final phase was “Beat the Ghosts” tackling the very tricky soft dunes from Iftar Bowl to Ghost Town ;;)
I believe, Amjed was in double mind for this drive as he rejoined the drive at last moment, which gave an opening to the ghosts to strike at him very badly at the very beginning of second phase at Pyramids ๐ (Dont worry buddy, you will certainly enjoy as a fully charged jeeper at Liwa) His jeep broke down and we decided to drop him at the nearest safe point to drive back in two wheel – Winchman volunteered to join me for this task. :thanks:
Having SIR in the convoy was a great advantage, handed over the lead to safe hands and planned to rejoin the convoy at Iftar Bowl. As usual SIR did an excellent job at Pyramids giving enough fun to everybody. Thanks Thanseer for all your support. It really helped to keep the drive momentum and thereby not dropping down the fun level. It wouldn’t have been a pleasant feel to make the whole convoy wait for a long time :thanks:
Amjed was dropped at the tracks to Tawi Nazwa near the fence. Here I gave a nice challenge to Rob – navigate himself to Iftar Bowl in shortest time to catch the convoy and I will follow him. Rob, you did an awesome job to catch the convoy much before they reached Iftar Bowl. Your well planned approach and departure in tackling dunes is what I like most :-BD and also you have crossed the high dunes very comfortably :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: SIR handed back me the lead on rejoining the convoy and I allowed Rob to continue the lead upto Iftar Bowl as he was doing good job at lead. Rob, you owe me a party for these private sessions as a preparation for GPS Challenge. You are a good contender ๐ All the very best :-BD
The last phase was a tough terrain and thereby a real challenge. Power alone wont help and had to tackle the soft dunes also with proper vehicle balance. Here we had series of hiccups, one after the other. Even experienced veterans like SIR had to face lots of challenges, confirming the ghost impact :ymdevil: But we braved all those hurdles and invaded ghost town as planned :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: It were virgin sand dunes without tire marks indicating the route is a least preferred one by the offroaders, due to its toughness.
Thanks to Aeimi for the excellent coordination and support at sweep :thanks: Thank you Thanseer for all your support :thanks:
Thanks to Ganesh Ashok, Rob, Chris, Andy & Firoz, for the excellent drive and wonderful company. :drive:November 20, 2012 at 6:43 pm #20330Kumar, you forced me to write the report. I am still in ghost mood…. :ymdevil: 8-X
Little bit about the drive….
What a GHOST drive….!!! 8-X 8-X 8-X
On my view from the very beginning, means from the posting of the drive, the Ghost/S were attacking all the participant in different ways. The first victim was Amjed. The ghost started attacking him the day he registered for the drive.
However we started the drive as scheduled with the team of DO followed by :ymdevil: 8-X . AS Kumar & Rob mentioned this drive had three phases. The First Phase Catch Me If You Can was the warm up session for the ghosts. From Ghost town all the ghosts came out to stop the convoy from entering in their Village. 1st Victim Amjed…. ๐ฎ Shaft is in his hand…. ๐ Don’t be mistaken… his jeep’s shaft…. Then special duty assigned for Kumar and Rob… :thanks: Overtime paid by chief ghost…. So I got a chance to lead. ๐ I didn’t give any chance for the ghost to attack us. I was leading little bit fast pace. So it was difficult for the ghost to catch us. Any way ghosts were following us. When they come down side of the dune we climb up. When they climb up we comes down. Before reaching Iftar Bowl Rob and Kumar Joind us after their special duty and I handover the lead to Kumar. Then Kumar assigned the lead to Rob and he did a wonderful job to take the convoy to Iftar Bowl. Then Rob performed his responsibility followed by Asok’s daughter. While waiting Iftar Bowl ghost has taken place in my car. Ghost wants to prevent me from reaching the ghost village. But we overcome all the hindrances and finally reached at our village.
The ghost were angry because we trespassed in their property. So they followed Kumar for next day drive and give nice company to Kumar and his team. ๐ฎ
Thanks Ganesh and Andy :thanks: for the nice photographs which help me to lease out my villa in ghost Town immediately. ๐
See you all for the next drive without ghosts…. :thanks: ๐
