GPS Info
I came across this very useful website for gps discussion and knowledge base and passing it so that others can also enjoy the benefit.
Moreover many people look for free downloadable maps for their garmin devices. Here is one website that has legitimate downloadable maps done by individuals as these are not cracked maps.
Unfortunately they dont have UAE and Oman maps currently in their list but am communicating with them for the same, and hopefully those would be loaded soon onto their website.
Regarding GPSs those can store way points and tracks?
This discussion has started many times and ends with an expensive answer of Garmin 276c. I was looking for other options but was unable to get, to the point info, but finally landed onto some info. There are a few models very popular including 276c, 60csx, 76cx (essentially the same as 60csx but a floater as it will not sink rather would float if fell in the water but 60csx remains more popular due to its convenient design and belt hookup). These three models could meet almost all kinds of out door/offroad requirements, however the difference is the size of screen and battery life. 60 and 76 has long battery life and are used by people hiking in the mountains but the usage is not limited to this only. These are also widely used by bikers, and offroaders. These are more portable then any other gps but all the three models are rugged and are made for tough conditions. Gps signals are very strong for 60 and 76 models as compared to 276c. On the other hand 276c has a bigger size screen and good mount for boat and vehicles.
In the other lineups Nuvi models could store way points and can also store tracks. These are more advanced in terms of facilities they offer but these are not as rugged as the others discussed above. These do not offer back track but how many people need to back track in desert.
Many might know about the info above but I hope this piece of info would help others.
