Dear Off Roaders!
This post to update you as promised on the outcome of this unfortunate deployment of my airbags last year while on the “NEWBIE-INTER-ADVANCE DRIVE OCTOBER 10, 2014”.
Those who were in the group most probably can remember about a grey my Nissan Pathfinder on which all lateral airbags deployed while driving along a very gentle route.
The outcome, in summary is the following:
– NISSAN declared to the famous relevant local dealer that such deployment was totally normal and that therefore repair cannot be made under warranty
– Car stayed more than 3 months in the dealers garage
– Although insured for off-road activities, famous local insurance company (3 letters.. ending with G) rejected the claim saying that “no external visible impact, so no accident”……
– As after 3 months without it, I decided to pay for getting back my vehicle. Cost: AED 2’848.—which is actually a very very special price the dealer made just to cover his costs (thank you for this) as not supported by NISSAN at all. Real cost would have been 3 to 4 times higher.Approximately one month ago, a Friend of mine was on a similar trip with a brand new NISSAN PATROL and same deployment occurred while gently crossing a dune.
So, NISSAN PATHFINDER and PATROL owners BEWARE, what should be a nice drive can actually end up in a bitter, costly and frustrating experience.
In addition to all above, on the same trip I borrowed one of my radios to one participant who I didn’t knew but thought that it was not an issue as we are in UAE and part of a community of honest people.
I was unfortunately wrong, as this person (a member of this forum) was obviously not an honest one given that he never returned the radio despite having promised several time to do so. Now he does not even reply to my phone calls or SMS while I know that he is in the country.
It’s not for the radio, but just for the principle, Shame on this guy.I wish you all a nice weekend!
Daniel
Dear Sir,
So Sad to hear that.
Firstly if you can send me a PM about the persons name, we will see to that your radio is returned to you.
Secondly this is a common mistake one makes despite we marshalls insists several times to switch off the air bags prior to drive. Airbags are meant for safety on road and if you are driving offroad all airbags, traction control and abs brakes needs to be switched off.
Having said this if your insurance includes offroad cover they should have replaced your airbags provided you have a police complaint or you have the write to take it up in court if the insurance companies did not respond. While selling the cars no matter Nissan or Toyota especially SUVs they inform that this car is meant for any terrain which means offroad driving is a normal thing for pleasure.
Finally the best insurance companies to give best support in case of claims are Zurich, AXA, RSA and Oman insurance. So I would suggest always get your car insured thru these companies even if premium is little higher. I get insurance for all my cars only with the above companies and I get it done thru CAre Brokers Karama Contact Vishnuwarthan 055 544 7565 wherein I get good price.
Pls do not hesitate to call me if you need any more details.

I am sorry to hear about your predicament but as Humayoon reiterated if the Airbags are switched off when driving offroad this problem may be avoided.
We would make sure that the Radio is returned to you if you will just let us have his username please, you can send a PM to either Humayoon or me.quote Ahmad Pervez:Daniel,
