Drive Start: Friday, 9:01 am sharp

    Duration: Full weekend (2 days)

Drive Terrain: Mountain tracks and wadis

Let’s take a weekend break from the UAE summer heat and head up to the cooler climates of the Musandam. We will spend Friday exploring the great tracks and wadis of the mountainous region before setting up our overnight camp high in the mountains. We will generally be between 1300 and 1700 meters elevation throughout our drive and camp so the temperatures will be considerably cooler compared to Dubai. We will have a relaxed camp with BBQ, drink, and chit-chat. After breakfast and packing up our camp on Saturday, we will continue to explore the Musandam mountains.

In addition to the cooler weather, there will be magnificent vistas to take your breath away. If you have never been to this area, it is a must do; if you have been to this area, perhaps it is time to go back again!

This is an overnight camp trip so in addition to all of your normal offroad gear (including working spare tire) you will need all of your food, drink, clothing, and camping provisions for the 2-day event. If anyone has specific questions about what to bring or not to bring please feel free to message me.

We will be crossing the border into Oman so you will need to ensure that everyone in your car has the proper passport and visa as well as Omani car insurance for the car.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out who can make the trip!

    Checklist:
    a) Keep your emergency contact info at vehicle dashboard.
    b) Carry air compressor with you and ensure itโ€™s in working condition.
    c) Ensure your 4×4 vehicle is in perfect condition and with enough fuel.
    d) Compatible Radio is a must.
    e) Carry all necessary off-road gear / recovery equipment in good working condition.
    f) Carry enough water / refreshments / re-hydration drinks for self & co-passenger(s).

    Hi Matt,

How long does it normally take to cross over the border here?

    August 10, 2016 at 3:56 pm #36293

    Hi Paul,

We are not going on any special holiday and we will be crossing early in the morning. So based on this the crossing should be rather quick and painless. I would guess no more than 30 mins with an even flowing UAE exit and Oman entry.

I’ve little concern about my vehicle insurance.
Is it a must to have Oman insurance?

You can buy insurance at the Oman border post for 80 AED which is valid for a week.

Thanks Matt for an EPIC adventure this weekend, top notch planning and organization! Great bunch of people and drivers, making my job as sweeper non eventful:) A mix of amazing scenery, challenging climbs, loose gravel/rock surface changing to tight sand roads kept the crew alert and excited. The camp location was beyond spectacular, the journey there and back equally so!

Fantastic trip, no issues, just all the good stuff!
