Stanley do you have an altimeter in your car?
Do you have a GPS?
How did you arrive at the above conclusion?
What do you mean by “didnt seem to be UAE tallest”?Please try & first get the hard facts before making vague statements like “see” or “felt”…
The Military camp at the top is documented as the highest point, altitude wise in all of U.A.E.
You may confirm this by plotting your yesterday’s position on Google earth to ascertain that only clear hard facts have been communicated, in spite of whatever you may have “see” or “felt”.

Ahmed bhai,
I dint mean to offend anyone here. i just said what it “felt like”. I know from facts that it is the highest point in UAE nor am i implying that you gave any wrong information. my statement was just like an expression nothing else.April 10, 2010 at 9:45 am #12763quote renegade:quote Ahmed Pervez:quote renegade:we also enjoyed the drive. though little dissapointed as the mountain didnt seem to be UAE tallest. felt like a short ride to the top. πStanley do you have an altimeter in your car?

Just that, we are always trying to work up something new for the group to enjoy & you know my only reward is for you guys to enjoy & appreciate the great outdoors, on the other hand if one of the group members is “disappointed” then I feel as if the whole exercise is wasted.
Yesterday we had the privilege of the company of your in-laws, too, please convey my regards to them.
Cheers!!!
:thanks: Ahmed Bhai it was good trip and it will be very good place for overnight camping.
I think even in summers at night place will be nice and cool because of the high altitude. So when I come back from UK we will do overnight camping trip over there.
What you say?

This will indeed be very nice for overnight camping, let’s plan another overnight camping trip once you are back.
The only worrying aspect is the lack of trees on the Mountain…This may signify gale force winds at some point of time /:) /:) /:)Wow it seems, I missed a really Enjoyable Drive, I was Into this venture with all my heart, but then at last moment some other thing cameup.
Any ways, I have a request to every one,
If any one can send the track for Jebel Yabir or atleast the Jebel Starting and Ending Way Points. I will be thankful. If any one wants to helpout, you can pm and I will pm my e-mail.
:thanks:
Hey everyone,
i am a new member to this site and i just happened across it by chance,
because aside from my interest in the outdoors i also have a passion for photography which is
how i came across this site and this thread…
i was hoping i can get some information from those of you who went on this trip,
as i am planning to make it also. however unfortunately there is not much information
on the internet regarding routes and driving conditions etc…
basically my plan is to drive up (as far as i can) jebel Yibir,
so i guess my questions are these:
1. how far up the mountain can you access by vehicle?
2. what are the driving conditions on this journey (accessible for a beginner?)
3. is there suitable spot for camping up there
4. can anyone assist me with some accurate driving map for this location?i hope i am not asking for too much here, but i would really love to make this adventure happen,
and to combine it with my love of photography and the night sky if you could help me out you would
really make me a happy camper…i truly hope to hear some feed back soon and if you need my contact details let me know.
thanks!

March 11, 2012 at 1:11 pm #16109As you may have noticed, this drive took place some time back so recent updates are not available.
At the time of the Drive…
There was a Military Checkpoint on top of the mountain so access to the top was not allowed.
The route is partly gravel, partly rocks and some motorable road so at least a couple of 4 wheel drive vehicles travelling together are recommended.
The area is rocky with loose stones but an experienced camper can find some suitable camping spots, definitely.
There is a route map to the mountain but it requires a fairly sophisticated GPS system, which one do you use?
We too will be organizing a drive to Jebel Yibir soon and you may join us then.March 14, 2012 at 7:10 pm #16146quote robinsonleiva:Nice!!! I am reading every single details of all postings and telling my wife Ale… “hey, I will sign up for this one, Ok?” She said, yes! π Only detail is that I am 2 years late!!!! π π I guess I will have to do this one alone…..You are not 2 years late! And you don’t have to do it alone. You are only a few months early! Wait for it. π
