7. KhalilToday’s drive was quite challenging due to extreme weather conditions which made the terrain also relatively tough. ๐ฎ
Unfortunately the convoy couldn’t maintain the momentum since the very beginning because of the difficult conditions due to which I believe Ahmed Bhai aborted the original plan in half way and returned to the starting point. /:)
Thanseer, Sam, Khalil & Tushar – for sure you guys had a tough day and tasks. Words are not enough to praise your sincere efforts in helping fellow offroaders :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: Even our radios never had any rest during the drive, from your coordination in recovery. ๐
Altogether the drive was a different experience but I didnt enjoy much as compared to the previous ones. ๐
Look forward for the next drive to compensate!! :ymsigh: :drive: :thanks:
February 18, 2012 at 4:40 am #15711Tough and challenging weather but a good drive none the less….. Thanks guys for letting me drive along
Regards
BenThe challenging weather added spice to the drive in my opinion ๐ liked the route as well. This adds to the experience of desert driving, there always will be sand, Faqaa, Liwa, soft sands … will still be there… we just need to go and take the challenge. However, a sandstorm, this is not our choice unfortunately (or fortunately ๐ ) and we needed to grap the opportunity.
This is what I take from the drive ๐
February 18, 2012 at 8:11 am #15716This drive was categorically listed as an intermediate drive, inspite of this we had some participants who were not upto the mark in terms of Driving experience / Skills / Vehicle preparation.
We entered the desert and started the drive at 1500Hrs. and were at the 30% mark at 1630Hrs. when we had to abort the drive as we would not have been able to complete the balance 70% drive by Sunset and obviously, due to safety considerations, I did not want this convoy floundering around in the dark in those challenging dunes.
We will be implementing a point system and every member will be rated on a scale of 1-5 and we will also be rating the drives corresponding to the points.
This will help us in matching the drive difficulty to the competency level of the members and will thus, hopefully, avoid having less experienced members risking vehicle damage and/or injuries in an advanced Drive.
This will also help us set up higher drive standards for advanced drives as only those who pre-qualify would be able to participate, this will also remove undue stress and work for the rescue Marshals.
Each member will be rated based up on the recommendation of at least 3 Marshals and then points will be awarded to the active members based on their past performance/s.
A member has the right to dispute the points given to them and ask for a re-appraisal.
Please put in any suggestion/s that will help us in implementing this system.February 18, 2012 at 12:34 pm #15725I like to drive in such situations and taking difficult challenges. This drive made me remember one of our LIWA drive which we had done two years back with sand storm. Thanks to G Kumar and Tushar for a free ride. I believe Tushar enjoyed more than others by testing the softness of the sand and finding his own way.
I agree with proposed grading system by Ahmed Bhai for the drives, to bring the maximum fun of drive or the participants respect their skill and join the appropriate drive according to their skills level. Like this drive neither expert people nor fewbies were enjoyed. It was boring time for experts and difficult time for fewbies.
The terrain was very nice to enjoy the drive. Especially with the windy weather made very soft sand surface everywhere and fresh dunes. But as I mentioned before we couldn’t achieve based on our plan. However the area which we covered I enjoyed. Thank you all.
I also feel Ahmed Bhai’s suggestion is good. After each drive the marhalls can start marking the points / level of each driver against the names of participants so that everybody can know their position. Also all the participants are supposed to enter the name in the list before or at least as soon as the drive is finished so as to be evaluated..
I hope this would be fine..
