just a thought.
Maybe there should also be a “Marshall of the Month”. They all work extremely hard in organising these trips and ensuring everyone is safe while having fun.
Maybe a voting system can be provided in each Trip Post where members can vote or rate the Marshall and the drive after each trip. The Marshall with the highest avg score get’s the “marshall of the month”. I just think they need just as much recognition as other DO members 🙂 …
What a great day out with a fantastic convoy.
For those who could not make it, hopefully you get to enjoy the route in the near future.
I was the last person to arrive at the meeting point, mainly because I couldn’t figure out how to get to the exact location from the road lol!.
Once everyone was ready and deflated Duncan gave a quick briefing and we all set off hard and fast.
And as per Asharaf’s report the route got better and better as the day progressed.
True to his word Duncan upped the level after each break to a point where I was probably at limits of my experience and had to take alternative routes a couple of times. (Note to self: need to improve at ridge riding).
There was very little chatter on the walkie talkies as no one really had any major issues. No Pop-outs, No Major recoveries, No unsafe moments :).
Just goes to show how good the rest of the convoy was and their capabilities.
Thanks again for the great day out and your patience when i had a couple second attempts ;).
Question for the team, I currently have standard highway tyres (very soft sidewalls) on my car and find that steering is a bit floaty and hard to read in the sand (when deflated).
Would changing tyres to something with stronger sidewalls help get better steering feedback and ultimately more control?.
I find that the car can’t hold itself up on when slide sloping and quickly slides down. Same goes for riding the ridges, as soon as it is slightly off center on top of the ridge it will slide down the slope (this is usually due to not getting enough feedback on the steering and hence not enough time to correct the driving path).
Anyways,, till next time,, take care and see you all again insha-allah..

I have also been reading up on installing air tanks. Some people have converted LPG bottles by changing the fittings with quick connects with good results. Although i don’t know if you are allowed to use LPG bottles for air tanks in the UAE.
Phillip, if you are going to bin your compressor then i will gladly take it off your hands for spare parts when mine dies! 🙂
It was a great drive with a fantastic line up of drivers/passengers. Asharaf was an excellent lead and provided a fast paced route which was exciting all the way.
The stucks were interesting…..lol. And everyone did their part and contrbuted towards the safe recovery of all vehicles.
It was a great area to drive in and i can’t wait to try the more challenging dunes that were pointed out by Asharaf near the end of the trip.
