Congratulations all.
One thing we need to make sure off following last weeks drive is that people have the correct equipment for there level. There is a sticky in the forum about what equipment you will need once you are no longer a newbie.
I believe people come in hordes, when Duncan and Humayun post drives ๐
I was assigned to lead the fewbee convey with Razik, the official sweep marshal :thanks: at the back.
Musatafah, Dr. Sajjadi, Jerin, Multani (naseem), David, Burak, Amer ….. a good fewbee convey.
A relaxing drive from tawi thru pyramids into the Iftar bowl :drive: . Except for the single poput, everthing went well.
Friends, the only thing we have to point out to you all is that, please prepare the recovery tools for yourself and carry the correct ones ๐ฎ , which suits your vehicle.
Don’t expect that someone will carry always a three ton or higher size hydraulic jack ๐ ๐
Nice to know that the other 2 convoys too did well…couldn’t meet you guys at the end; as it was already dark, when we exited Iftar Bowl.
Thanks for doing a great job at leading firoztv. Much appreciated.
I echo your views on the drive and as it was my first few be drive the difficulty level helped me improve my skills in the sand. Still got a lot of learning to but eager to keep on learning.
Thanks to Duncan for arranging the drive.
I deal with water sports equipment and have roof racks for them – but jeep doesn’t come with runners. I have hard tops, and since its a 2014 car, I don’t want to do anything to the car that may invalidate the warranty. Any ideas?
Also, while the weather is good, I’d like to replace the hard-top with a soft-top – and switch to hard-top during the summer.
I’ve found good prices online, but no idea on shipping cost. I’ve contacted Jeepers but no response. Where can I go where I wont’ get ripped off??
Thanks for your help!
Maybe try Ramy 4×4.
Thanks very much guys.
Onwards and upwards!
Congratulations to all the other guys as well.
so 12 cars for tomorrow at the moment. Lets see how many we get registering today.
Just need to get some fire wood and then I’m all sorted.
David
Hi David,
I got these from a shop called “Formula Tyres”. They have a shop in Sharjah and in Dubai in Al Quoz. I can send you the coordinates of the Al Quoz shop if you want? In addition to these Kumhos, they also have e.g Cooper Discoverer AT3’s and Yokohama Geolandar ATS’s.
I swapped my stock JK wheels to 17″ alloys and got 285/70R17 tires on them. That’s a 33″ tire that will rub on stock JK. I did not want to lift my Jeep so I installed flat fenders to make room for front tires. (and with those fenders flares the stock JK front bumper looks incredibly stupid, so i changed that also). So the whole exercise wasn’t cheap, but after driving the stock JK for over one year now I knew this is what i wanted. The general wisdom is to keep driving for a while before spending money on upgrades. You learn better and get to know whether this is your thing.
Tommi
Thanks Tommi,
Yeah I have driven past Formula Tyres a couple of times.
My thoughts were as you said really is drive the car as it is between now and the start of next winter and then maybe do a few upgrades then. The tyres are just stock 16″ at the moment and see to do the job on sand reasonably well at the current level.
When I asked the tyre sales guy whether the new ones a good for sand and dunes he said that “with these your Jeep will climb the dune like a camel” ๐ ๐ ๐ Let’s see on Friday how it goes. The differentiator may still be between the wheel and seat. ๐ ๐
Tommi
Hi Tommi,
Looking at getting some new tyres for my jeep as well. Where did you get them from? What size tyres did you get as well?
David
Thanks to all the marshals for Fridays drive. Was a lot of fun. Hope to see you all again for the Liwa trip.
Thanks everyone for yesterday. Was a good trip for my first time out and will be up for going next weekend if there is a morning one as I have plans in the afternoon.
David it’s around 18/19 00 & something, plus mount etc,
AMIT is not the best at answering the phone!!!
I’ve seen them in Adventure Sport in Times square also. You can also try ringing Tech Souq, I think they have an offer, it’s got maps on it but you shouldn’t buy just because of that, the road maps are ok but local maps are a bit useless in the sand.
WHere do you live David?.if we are close you can take a dekko at mine before you buy give you an idea of what’s in the box so to speak
I’m happy to chat on the dog and bone if it suits[/quote]
I live in Tecom.
Will have a look in Adventure HQ this weekend. I’m not in a rush to buy one just yet and will have a look at other peoples in the group.
That’s the only missing from my list of items.
The best for this game is Garmin & model Montana 650, or the new wifi enabled Monterra, although this model has a lot of extra stuff you may not need if your only use is offroading.
Why Garmin, it has a facility to subscribe to Birdseye imagery($29 per annum), which gives you Google Earth like imagery. If you couple the Montana and the Basecamp app you really have a very powerful tool set.

Thanks for this Brian. Do you have any idea on the price on this model. Tried calling the store but no answer.
The Camp activity is typically for 2-3 hours, so we should be done by 2100Hrs. (9pm) approx.
The convoy logistics can only be crystallized once we have the number of registrations and the Marshal support available.
Dave & Chris you are both welcome to join the drive, please clarify if you would like to go to the camp too and if you would have any guests as well?
I would like to do the camp and I would also be bringing my wife.
Well if the course is free and you have the time and inclination to do it then by all means please go ahead and do the same. It will give you good theoretical knowledge.
I will do it one weekend soon but will come out with you guys this weekend.
