Nice drive with great company.
Left the meeting point at 7:10 as planned. We were only 5 cars (GKumar, Carl, Rein, Musbah and myself), as three drivers appologized before.
From al rawda petro station we headed to Al Faqaa mosque, deflated and the fun began.
The drive was a fast one and rated (Intermediate +) as we wanted to spice it a little bit for the team.
Everyone drove well without taking unnecessary risks. Although the entent was to test everyone’s reflexes and focus, Musbah was the second lead and was constantly giving a headsup to all the drivers on the radio preventing them from potential hickups … that’s was too nice from him …
We finished the drive around 10:15, 15min later than the original plan, but that’s alright I guess, isn’t it?
All in all I enjoyed driving with all of you.
Thank you for making it happen and special thanks to GKumar for his commandable help controling the convoy and giving the right advices, it made my role very easy ๐
See you all soon.
Cheers

There will be more :drive: :drive: :drive: … don’t worry … ๐
Thank you Brian for the nice and detailed report.
I will comment on the first part of the drive with Ganesh ….
Extreemly enjoyed it and that was my first drive with Ganesh as lead. Commandable Job :ymapplause: :ymapplause: … And this comes from the heart. All of the drivers did well without exception, and I was enjoying seeing the whole group surfing those nice dunes with ease. It is such a nice feeling
Would have loved to continue the drive with you guys … But after multiple stops and me trying to convince myself that it will be alright I decided to abid to rule # 2 of desert offroading: “Leave EGO at home”. Sand driving while sick is dangerous as you lose your concentration and that might have unwanted consequences.
Nonetheless, it was nice seeing you guys after a while.
Cheers
PS: for those of you asking what is rule #1, well… “Never fight the gravity” ๐
๐ I Like this subject that will never end. You’ve just opened a Pandora box and you’ll never get the same answer from any one, no matter the offroad experience, simply because everyone is different and the needs are different, expectations are also different. Here is my own view on this:
1) Best Offroad Car is a Jeep Wrangler (TJ) or the newest one 2013
Cons: not confortable on road, no real cargo space
2) Best second offroad Car is an FJ
Cons: visibility, CG location (stability) which can be addressed with wheel spacers
3) Best overall offroad with onroad comfort car is a Toyota Landcruiser LC followed by the Patrol 2 doors SWB 4.8 followed by the Patrol LWB 4.8 the old one obviously
4) Xterra is a good choice for most of what we do as well as the Pajero (despite the rear bumper issue)
Nonetheless, the car is the 25% the remaining is who is driving it + tires.
Have a good hunting
