if not Avalanche then my only option is to get a used Nissan patrol. only problem is i have been trying to search for one in classifieds since one week and not one car is on sale. imagine that !!!

The problem of Tundra or Titan is that they are full time V8 which will not be very fuel efficent. The 5.3L V8 runs on V4 most of the time and when needed turns to V8. so it will be more fuel efficent. I was thinking of getting the Z71 offroad package. i thought the trucks like Ford F150 or Avalanche was considered as passenger vehicles.

I have talked a while ago about the Montana 6xx series as being the new GPS that Garmin is launching to replace the 256C ( It took them a while ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Now I can give you my feedback … I got my unit delivered last week from the US (could not wait anymore), as it is still not available here. I paied USD 560 for the 650 model (the one with a camera) + USD 40 for the Car Mount.

Had to play with a bit, tried it in the desert, tried planning for trips, routes and tracks, uploading and downloading waypoints/tracks and routes from my PC, puchased Birdseye for satellite imagery on the GPS, The screen is very responsive and bright … All in all I am extremely pleased with it. It also brings many features that the 256C does not have, but wait … you’ll tell me that there all not required…. you’re right but wait … it’s really nice to have them …

So if you have any question, do not hesitate… No wonder why the 256C was on sale in Carrefour ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers

    Khalil

It is already available in Amit Trading since 3 weeks now. i have already enquired it. Same price as what shows on Garmin website. Havent purchased it though. still contemplating !!!

    Thanks Ahmed bhai,
Has anyone recently encountered trouble at al ain or hatta border crossing for getting visa stamped for oman. I heard they are not stamping it now and it is better to apply in advance at oman consulate.

    quote Ahmed Pervez:

    d. We are going to start a rating system for all the members where each member will be assigned 1-4 stars depending on their driving and navigational capabilities.
The ratings for the active members will be assigned on the next meeting in consultation with the Marshals & the Committee members.
    e. The drives too, will then be rated on the difficulty level by stars and only the qualified drivers holding the requisite stars will be able participate.
    f. The next meeting is to be held on Monday the 14th of March 2011, venue to be communicated later.

    Ahmed bhai,
    just some doubts….
    1. Wouldnt giving rating or points be like a discouragement/ hindrance for members to join for drives thereby reducing participation ?
    2. the monthly meeting is for all members to attend or only committee members and marshals ?
    3. also who are the committee members ?
