This is going to be my first drive with DO. I have done 4 drives with another group and based on equipment, I will be Fewbee minus snatch kit. Please suggest if I could join.
Hello Johar,
Welcome to DO. If this is your first drive with DO, you will be joining the Newbies convoy for a few drives, allowing the marshals to observe your driving skills and provide you with any additional hints and support you might need to sharpen your driving skills on the sand and progress. You are most welcome to join the drive provided you have the basic requirements like Flag pole, Compatible walkie talkie with necessary knowledge of how to operate, and snatch hooks on the front and back of your car (which I am sure you have looking at the car you will be driving :p ) should you require any recovery during the drive.
Looking forward to meeting you on Friday, Cheers.
Sam
Hey Sam,
Thanks a lot. I have the flagpole, compatible radio and other basic things, along with a passion to drive ๐ . See you tomorrow.
:thanks:
SJ with an FJ ๐
btw, I have Crony – this one is 100% authentic (honestly and proudly says “Made in China”) and is between 150-175 AED, depending on your negotiation skills ๐ and it works 4th year so far…
Hahaha… That’s what pissed me off. Why not proudly say Made in China and let the customer buy with confidence. :D.
Anyone got a Radio imported from Chine/US? Baofeng looks impressive.
I went to Sheng Da in DM yesterday to buy the Motorola GP338 Plus Radio. The one they are selling is clearly a fake. I have used Motorola walkies in the past and one could tell the difference just by holding one in his hands. This one’s cheap lightweight plastic, no sticker on the battery, the battery charger says “BATTRY CHARGER”. Also, the buttons are placed different from what they are on genuine radio on the Website. Irony is that we can’t buy the radios from genuine Motorola resellers since these are certified radios and one would need a TRA license to buy one.
Those who has bought the same model from this shop, please suggest how its holding up so far. And does your radio’s battery also misses the stickers and charger says BATTRY CHARGER?
Thanks
Johar
Hi. I am new to the forum and don’t have a car yet. I want to join the drives to enlighten myself to desert offroading world and seek valuable advice on buying my car. Will be glad if someone can take me with him to the drive. I live in JLT and can come to any metro station in Dubai.
Thanks
SJ

Offroading: Newbie.
I happened to stumble upon this wonderful forum while searching for reviews on cars I am considering to buy. This will be my first car in UAE. I have been driving for over a decade in India and have drove & rode to some of the toughest terrains in India. Never had a chance to hit the desert on wheels.
Looking forward to valuable advises, wisdom and experiences of all the seasoned off-roaders here. And hope to join with my own wheels very soon.
Regards
