My friend has a Disco 2 that he drives in the desert. In his opinion this is definitely a “no go” option. They are too heavy and don’t have enough power to deal with the weight. You can live with a heavy, powerful car (LWB Patrol) or a light, less powerful one (Wrangler) but the Disco 2 has the worst of both worlds.
My friend can make it work on the sand as he is a very experienced driver, but for a beginner you would be better off buying something else.
There is a friend’s SWB Nissan Patrol going to be available shortly (AED30K), if you are interested, PM me ๐
Thanks, Humayun!
If anyone else is interested, Icon in Dubai do 8mm skid plate for FJ for AED1200, Best Line Garage in Doha Street on the border of Sharjah/Dubai quoted me AED1500 (again for 8mm plate) over the phone, but I guess this price is negotiable ๐
I am still thinking where to go and whether my FJ really needs a new plate ๐
Thank you to everyone for the most enjoyable drive!
Zakariya, your car problem was linked to the bad battery connection. This is something to do with car electrics and apparently the voltage in the car is kept at 12v by the battery. With poor connection it can go up and damage electronics in the engine management. I am glad you had your power back!
I am also very curious whether you got to your surprise spot. The last words I heard leaving the group were “Marshall, we need a winch”. I was sorry to leave as I wish I could witness another great recovery.
Look forward to driving with you again soon.
afternoon busy with family we can have a afternoon drive on Thursday or Saturday am/pm
let me know if you or someone is interested for a drive ๐
Hi, Zakariya, I would be interested in Saturday drive, don’t mind if it is morning or afternoon ๐
Guys, thank you very much for a most enjoyable drive! Humayun led an incredibly fast paced and challenging drive, Yohan did a great job sweeping everyone who needed help. Although I managed to avoid being towed out with the help of low range and A-Trac :yesss: . It was incredible and amazing. Looking forward to more!
:thanks:
Wanted to say a big THANK YOU for the unforgettable experience. It was an amazing trip (thank you Sajid for a descriptive overview – I am sorry I was one of the first two stucks).
I am very grateful to Ahmad for being brave enough to take us newbies to Liwa and for showing us what we may be able to do once we master the skills. We also understood that even good drivers do get stuck ๐ฎ and that no matter how good we become, we should never be dismissive of the power of the desert.
I look forward to seeing you all again back in the sand very soon! (Can we have more Saturday drives for the newbies, please?)
