Hello DO
Thank you for yet another great day out :drive: , Sweihan was a new playground.
The afternoon was crisp and fresh with a light rain that kept the dust down. The temperature dropping to 25 degrees :yesss: with the wet top layer of sand ensured that the windows were rolled down and the drop in temperature welcomed with open arms :ymhug: .
I was assigned to Ganesh’s convoy and was sitting out back with Paul. The drive started with a flat tyre change just as we were getting into the sands. Resources from the convoy were used to deal with it quickly. The terrain after that was spectacular with large dunes and had it not rained would ensure really soft sand.
Ganesh had briefed us that we will keep side sloping to a minimum due to the wet conditions and the resulting increased average of a roll in the sand :-w .
The drive was easy with a few second attempts from a couple of participants with just one cresting tug. Reducing the tyre pressure by 2 psi on the Jeep ensured that the true potential of the car and driver could be seen đ .
We came to a halt with a pop out call from out back and Sundar’s monster jack was put to good use yet again :ymapplause: :ymapplause: . As dusk was upon us it was a fast drive to the oasis and soon to the gas station amongst a lot of ha ha ha’s
Thank you :thanks: Ganesh for a great lead and Amin for keeping the watch out back :thanks: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
Hello DO & MEO
It was yet again a fantastic day out with over 30 cars and 3 convoys in the morning :drive: . We all met at the Gas station and proceeded to the entry point in Lisaili. On route we witnessed groups of race Camels being put through their paces đŽ and also witnessed horse men readying their rides for the endurance desert hacking @-) . The silent bikers on the newly paved bike track and the wonderful weather all spoke of a great day ahead. :ymparty:
After deflation we grouped for a quick briefing from Kumar and the convoy was split. Ashok took the lead on the first convoy :thanks: with Rein keeping the herd at number two :thanks: . The initial part of the drive was mostly short twisty technical dunes that I have in the past referred to as the Doldrums, which gave us ample time to practice our moves. Apart from the random cresting and pop out which was dealt with really quickly the drive was well paced and we moved to higher dunes closer to Faqqa :ymdevil: .
The track chosen by Ashok was great ensuring that we were both challenged and at the same time maintaining the convoy pace :thanks: :thanks: . Being out front I could only see Shabeer and Rein of which Rein had the job of looking after the herd which he did with great flair and Shabeer your accomplishment with that little wagon of yours is one of sheer determination and will power. I can only imagine what you can accomplish inside a Patrol or FJ :ymapplause: :ymapplause: .
Brian you have a good eye :ymhug: and as you rightly stated the side sloping with the cresting I found a lot easier as this was my maiden drive with the K&N performance filter under the hood. I know a lot of guys out there would challenge this but trust me the improved throttle response from the K&Nâs on a 3 litre mitsu makes a world of a difference. Now the only thing that I will have to address especially with summer almost upon us is the drain in torque when the a/c is switched on :ymsigh: :-w :-w and so I am looking at headers and catback for the fix. Any advice or experience on this will be greatly appreciated.
So as the War cry goes out yet again â SEE YOU IN THE SANDâ :ymapplause: :ymcowboy: :-B
I have the Etrex 20… with the UAE – Oman offroading maps. Pretty easy to use, and as of date, – so far, so good.
Hay Rakesh
Good to know you are happy with the unit, where did you pick yours from, Amit’s ??? And do they have the extras such as the car charger and mount
Hay Saj
Thank you for the heads up, will catch up with Tiger on this as i did a compairison between the Montana 650 and the eTREX 20 on the garmin site
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=145&compareProduct=75227&compareProduct=87771
and the only thing that stood out was an increase in the screen size, resolution and number of waypoints from 2000 on the eTREX to 4000 on the Montana, rest of it all seem to check out. This for 60% less than Montana got me stumped and thought will check with the experts before i get too excited đ đ đ
