great drive, great company and some awesome reports! this was my second visit to the starfish dunes and they are as challenging and beautiful as they were the first time. like the first time in these dunes i did not manage to finish the route leaving me feeling like a junky looking for his next shot.. I need to go back to the starfish dunes and finish this pesky trail!! chapeau for Ricardo for traversing throuh this terrain as the head of the 4×4 dragon and making it look so easy and of course chapeau to all the rest for following the lead with relative ease which says a lot about the quality of the drivers! Starfish is a very technical terrain and manages to surprise you at every corner and across every dune. I’m hooked and I’ll be back for more, aleays searching for my 4×4 fix.
I completely forgot to mention that in report ๐ But it was wonderful to see the jeep pulling out the crested FJ in one shot :-BD Good job Tyn :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: Now be ready for many more pulls in the coming drives….. ๐ “Jeep Recovery Team” :))
Also need to test the extra heavy duty tow hook ๐
Tyn, actually we dont mentioned the stucks & recovery in details, sorry for that, but we jeepers are always there anywhere when needed so Mr. Kumar has formed a Jeep recovery team ( Tyn,Ricardo & Amjed) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) extreme situation recovery unit =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =))
A memorable event like this surely deserves to be mentioned! The ease of the recovery was something I will never forget… what was I talking about?!?
…and of course no one mentions the fact that a JEEP recovered a FJ cruiser… sometimes I feel like a mad man raving and drooling in the desert… hold on… maybe I am a mad man raving and drooling in the desert but with the knowledge that it was a JEEP that recovered a FJ cruiser… okay, okay, the same FJ cruiser had to recover me due to the fact that I was in 2WD (thanks Thanseer for pointing that out to me).
A quick short message like the ones you can expect from a smartphone.. Kumar, you did it again! Your organising skills seem to have no limits What a great drive and what a cool way to say farewell to 2012 offroad style. A lovely pace through all the areas we’ve come to know so well over the last year. See y’all in 2013 for more fun in the sand!
After meeting at the Epco petrol station near the Al Madam roundabout we set off to the starting point some 5km away. After deciding that it would be a case of self recovery (and a bit of self discovery thrown into the mix), the channel was going to be 4 and that there was no driving order we started the drive at 8:29 according to my GPS. Confidence sank to its lowest point ever after I got stuck in the first 5 minutes of the drive and self recovery was not going to get me anywhere. Fortunately Abdula was there to give me a quick pull. Changing tire pressure helped me big time and slowly my confidence was getting back on track. The terrain was quite diverse with a couple of big climbs, treacherous deep sand and a nice technical bit with short dunes and lots of bowls. The group drove like experts which let Ronbinson to ask “so tell me, what is the difference between the drive we just did and an advanced drive?”. Moments of great interest.. Robinsons bumper that came off, Thanseers protection plate on the bottom of his Pajero that needed some tie raps and some baby camels. Already looking forward to the next drive. Thanks Thanseer for organising yet another great drive!
