Hello Dubai Offroaders members. I have noticed confusion about the operation and the frequencies used in our offroad walkie talkie. As we all know, walkie talkie is essential for communication and safety of the drivers and the passengers on all our drives. I thought, I shall give you a simple walk through of the frequencies used. The frequencies used are:

    Channel —– Frequency (MHz)

    1—————- 462.5625
    2—————- 462.5875
    3—————- 462.6125
    4—————- 462.6375
    5—————- 462.6625
    6—————- 462.6875
    7—————- 462.7125
    8—————- 467.5625
    9—————- 467.5875
    10————— 467.6125
    11————— 467.6375
    12————— 467.6625
    13————— 467.6875
    14————— 467.7125

Corrections or additions to anything I said are most welcome.

Can we know the details of shops where we can purchase the equipment? Understand that, it is available somewhere in Dragon Mart, However if we can get the shop reference or contact number it will be more helpful.

    Thanks & regards

These Walikie Talkie / radios in which you can manually set the frequencies ( e.g Crony, Quansheng etc… which are used by 80 % n offroad community) are banned/not allowed with our permission from TRA. and it seems authorities are using iron fist to implement this ban now because now you will not find these on display in any shop in dragon mart, instead they have place the pre-set frequency two ways walkie talkies. however one can try and might find any luck.

Someone told me walkie talkies are not allowed in UAE. Presumably then this is not correct? If so, where can I get one?

I had been to China Mall Ajman. Those radios available there are useless. They will refer you to Dragon Mart for good radios 🙁

    Hi

I am looking to purchase a radio. The above thread is almost a year old. Are there any upgrades available or do I go to the same store and purchase the above listed model? Will they also set-up the frequencies for me if I tell them I am with DO?

I do have Navigon in my iPhone? Do you advise me to still invest in another car GPS like Garmin or I can use the Navigon I have?

    Please advise.

The mentioned shop in the thread is still the best place to purchase your radio. You can look at the same model mentioned (Motorolla 338+) or also look at the Icom. Would also depend on what is available in the shop. I had left a printed list of frequencies at the shop a few months ago but it is safer if you carry the same with you in case you would like them to program the same for you.

Regarding the GPS, the best bet is always Garmin. The model number would depend on your budget and seriousness. GPS on mobiles are decent so long as you are within network coverage.

    Hi Zarir

Thanks a lot for your input. I will visit the shop with the frequencies list.

With reference to the Garmin, I am looking at something basic to help me get started. There’s a Garmin nuvi 1310 and 1600 series available on Dubizzle. Do you reckon they are good enough to start off with?

    Saj,

If you see in the classifieds section of our group, I have posted one for the sale of my Garmin GPS…have a look and let me know if you are interested…its only used for one drive.
