AnonymousJune 12, 2022 at 11:37 am #46968Hi All,
I recently joined. I have a Ford escape 2008 model 3L V6 4WD. I went out on mostly flat sand dunes just to have a braai. but I was wondering if this ford is enough for a little bit more. and how can I know if the 4WD is actually working or not. If anyone out there have the same vehicle please send me a message.Have a good one.
February 12, 2023 at 10:58 am #53441Hi Faateh Ahmed,
Im very new to DO and never off-roaded. I’m driving Jeep JL 2door and its tyre upgraded from 255/70/R18 to 285/75/R18 also installed steering stabilizer but NOT lifted. will it(less clearance) create any issue while off-roading?
I’m waiting for the next beginner session to join with.
Thank you in advance for the guidance.

“When I moved to Dubai, I had no idea how buying a used car works here. I thought I’d just check a few ads and pick something decent, but it turned out there are a few things you need to pay attention to.
What helped me with my first car:
Model years: 2018–2025. Anything older looks cheaper but usually brings extra costs.
Budget: AED 50K–200K. Below 60K it’s hard to find something in good condition.
Mileage: 50K–125K km — less is overpriced, more often needs repairs.
Brands I considered: Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Lexus, and maybe Mercedes.
I wasted time on Facebook listings — many were sold or nothing like the photos. What actually worked was Formacar. It’s a classifieds platform with verified dealers, and in the Formacar app you can preview cars in 3D and AR — spin them around, change colors, and even see how they’d look in your parking spot before visiting any dealer.
I ended up buying a 2018 Toyota with about 80K km for just over 100K. Papers were clean, RTA transfer was smooth, and the car matched the listing.
If you’re buying your first car here, don’t rush and don’t choose only by price. Stick to good years, reasonable mileage, and trusted brands — it saves a lot of stress.”
